Strategic Modelling
[Top]Gabites Porter Consultants have been have been leaders in the field of transport modelling in Australasia since the late 1970's. We have built on this lead over time with the development of TRACKS, a Transportation Planning Software package developed by GPC software engineers. Its use has spread from its base in New Zealand, where it is now the most widely used strategic transport planning package, to Australia, Malaysia and South Africa. Its functions include detailed modelling of:
- Highways/Roads/Streets/intersections
- Public Transport (including bus, ferry, and rail systems)
- Freight and Logistics
- Cycling and Walking
- Town Centres
- Car Parking
- Urban/demographic Growth
- Land development proposals
- Economic performance
- Vehicle Emissions
Micro simulation modelling
[Top]Gabites Porter Consultants have the ability to develop microsimulation models when a more detailed level of analysis is required, for example in congested urban environment, or for 3D visualisation purpose. Microsimulation aims to replicate the individual components of traffic flows and congestion, taking fully into account the physical road layout, vehicles characteristics and behaviours, and their interactions.
The software used by Gabites Porter Consultants is S-Paramics, which is the most widely used microsimulation system in New Zealand and in the UK, and is used in many other countries. S-Paramics presents its output as a real-time 3D visual display, which can help the public and representatives to comprehend the results of any traffic study, and also provides a number of more traditional modelling outputs for environmental or economic assessment.
Microsimulation models can be applied to various types of studies, from single junction and small network design to wide area traffic management, as well as traffic impact assessments, economic and environmental appraisals, bus priority schemes and development access design.
Gabites Porter Consultants are constantly pushing the boundaries in the field of transport modelling and simulation. In 1995 TRACKS incorporated more complex intersection analysis and 11 years later entered into an agreement with a leading software company to animate outputs from TRACKS outputs:
